March from The 19th Hole NEWS LETTER.

Congratulations to Dot Brown on being awarded Life Membership of the Club. I had the pleasure of presenting Dot with her Life Membership certificate Friday night. Dot has been a stalwart in the Club, having been on the Lady’s Committee for many, many years, serving as their Treasurer for 11 years and more recently as a Club Patron. She has been a great sponsor including sponsoring the always well contested, Merv Brown Memorial Day in memory of husband and former Club Captain, Merv.

An information and sign on day, followed by a sausage sizzle to rekindle the Cadets was held on Sunday 4th March with a pleasing result. Around 12 keen youngsters showed up and there were another 4 or 5 that had shown interest that didn’t make it, so it looks promising. A new committee was formed with John Castledine - President; Tracey Walters - Secretary; and Karie Graham - Treasurer. Cheryl Olive will be the liaison person with the Board. If you know of any youngster that may be interested in becoming a cadet, please let Cheryl know.

One down and only three to go!! Special thanks to those members who gave their time last Monday and Tuesday to prepare and then lay the concrete buggy path down from the 5th tee. It looks great, and will make it much safer for buggies and walkers alike. Weather permitting, we will be finishing the formwork behind the 7th tee on Monday 19th , and laying the concrete on Tuesday 20th, so anyone that can spare an hour or two on either day to help, would be greatly appreciated.

The ladies have purchased new furniture for the lounge area which should be here next week, and we thank them very much for their continued efforts in sprucing up the Clubhouse. Four new square tables with 16 chairs for the lounge, two slightly smaller round tables with 4 chairs to replace those adjoining the lounge plus 6 matching stools for the poker machine area. They have also bought about 50 new cocktail glasses, which I’m sure Aaron is only too keen to put to use!!!

We have purchased an almost new surrounds mower and a greens roller – something similar to that used on bowling greens which should give a flatter and truer putting surface – so if you see Trent sitting on something going sideways across the greens, don’t think he’s losing it, he’s OK.

Easter is coming upon us quickly and nothing could be better than winning the Easter Raffle that the ladies have put together. It will be drawn on the Thursday night before Good Friday, as this will be our raffle night for the week. Tickets are on the bar and are $2 each of 3 for $5. Good luck.

Easter trading hours:
Good Friday: Closed
Easter Saturday Trading and golf as usual
Easter Sunday: Closed
Easter Monday: Closed
As always social players are more than welcome when the Club House is not open, with the honesty box available for playing fees.

The R&A and the United States Golf Association have finalised changes to the Rules of Golf which come into effect on 1 January 2019. A summary of the changes can be found on line at, but hard copies will be available later in the year.

The Club is manning (or should that be personing!!!) a stall at the Bazaar on Sunday 22 April, so fella’s, pot out a few plants, and ask the wives, girlfriends (or both) to do some cooking please. If we were to get just one item from every member it would make a big difference to the success on the day.

A guy was sitting quietly reading his paper when his wife walked up behind him and whacked him on the head with a magazine.
'What was that for?' he asked. '
That was for the piece of paper in your pants pocket with the name Laura Lou written on it,' she replied.
'Two weeks ago when I went to the races, Laura Lou was the name of one of the horses I bet on,' he explained.
'Oh honey, I'm sorry,' she said. 'I should have known there was a good explanation.'
Three days later he was watching the football on TV when she walked up and hit him in the head again, this time with the iron skillet, which knocked him out cold.
When he came to, he asked, 'What the hell was that for?'
She replied.......'Your horse just phoned '
